PERFORMANCE: AFRICATOWN

At the beginning of this project with our seminar, we decided to create a performance based on the theme: A relevant time in history.

From here, we started to create a brainstorming idea and initially, we thought it was appropriate to do our work on the time of the Egyptians. Consequently, we decided to focus on Slavery in America, as we could better link it with the music part. The story we recreate was taken from a true story from the 19th century.

On the art side, we thought it was a good idea to represent this story through shadows and movements, thus combining light as a source of artistic expression.

The cover of our work is the following one:

SCENES AND REPRESENTATION OF SHADOWS

Scene 1 → Will be performed. Angela arrives at her grandparents' house. She will find it in the newspaper, and he will be in a corner of the stage where she will stay and tell the story she finds in the newspaper.

Scene 2 → It will be represented with shadows, we will use the figure of the ship and one of the waves. While in the background you can listen to music and history.

Scene 3 → Will be represented with shadows. Create figures of men in chains and expose them to an audience.

Scene 4 → The protagonist will be represented in the work fields with the figures.

Scene 5 → will be performed. A shack (barracó) with a number of 63 people will be represented.

Scene 6 → Will be performed. Africa Town will be represented with shadows (shadowing a lot of people at a party). We played bongos and maracas in the background.

Scene 7 → Scene of the painter. Suddenly, a painter enters the classroom pretending to draw the city of Africatown projected with shadows. The painter will leave the drawing behind Angela and leave. When Angela leaves, she will see that next to the diary, among all the old things, was the picture, where she will pick it up and look at it.

Demonstration noise will be heard outside the classroom (someone with a Bluetooth speaker with a downloaded noise).
